About us

According to the Turkish Language Institution (TDK), "Traditions and customs" are cultural remnants, habits, knowledge, customs, and behaviors that are respected and passed down from generation to generation in a society or community due to their ancient origins and possess a sanctioning power. The concept of tradition exhibits both similarities and differences among the approaches of various sub-disciplines in the social sciences and the meanings attributed by traditional societies.

"Traditional Handicrafts," on the other hand, have emerged since the existence of humanity in response to natural conditions. They initially provided examples to meet people's needs, clothe themselves, and protect themselves. Over time, handicrafts have evolved and adapted to environmental conditions, reflecting the emotions, artistic preferences, and cultural characteristics of the society in which they originated, thus acquiring the "traditional" quality. Traditional Turkish Handicrafts have formed a rich mosaic by combining their own core values with the cultural heritage of various civilizations that have existed in Anatolia for thousands of years.

"The Center for Handicrafts Research and Application (ESAM)" aims to conduct scientific research and production in the field of handicrafts, which is of great importance for the Çanakkale province, where Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University is located, and which is on the verge of being forgotten.
